요는 학업 개시일(I-20상)보다 120일 이내에는 비자가 안나온다 입니다. 

**그런데... 인터뷰는 그전에라도 할수 있다고 하니, 다음주에 미리 인터뷰 받고, 여권만 따로 보내면 되는지 전화로 알아보려 합니다. 미리 인터뷰 받으면 바쁠때 미리 안가도 되거든요. Good luck myself~

여러분은 일 처리할 때 미리미리 계획하는 타입인가요? 아니면 마감에 임박해야 몸이 움직여지는 타입인가요?  저는 항상 마감에 쫓기는 사람입니다.  사실 지금 이 글도 마감에 쫓겨 쓰고 있지요 ㅎㅎ

비자 신청하시는 분들을 보면 대부분은 제시간에 신청을 하시지만 간혹 너무 촉박하게 여행 일정을 잡아서 인터뷰 하자 마자 “내일 비자 받을 수 있나요?” 하고 물어보시는 분들도 종종 있어요.  반대로 학생비자 신청하면서 9월에 새학기 시작인데 5월도 되기전에 미리미리 인터뷰를 하고 비자를 받아두려는 분들도 계시답니다.  오늘은 이렇게 미리미리 준비하시는 모범적인 신청자들을 위한 자그마한, 하지만 아주 유용한 팁을 하나 알려 드리려고 해요

학생 비자를 신청하실 때는 120일 규정(120days Rule) 이라는 것이 있다는 것을 염두에 두세요.

120일 규정이란 입학허가서 상의 등록일보다 120일 전부터 비자를 신청할 수 있다는 건데요, 예를 들어 나의 입학허가서 상의 등록일이 9월1일 이라면 비자인터뷰는 120일…약 4개월전, 그러니까 5월4일 이후로 잡으셔야 한답니다. 만일 그 전에 인터뷰 하러 오신다면 안타깝지만 120일 규정을 적용해서

일단 인터뷰를 하고

입학허가서 상의 등록일이 120일 남은 시점에 다시 대사관으로 여권을 보내 비자를 받는다

이런 번거로움이 있을 수 있어요.

하지만 명심하세요.  여름방학과 겨울 방학을 앞두고는 항상 많은 분들이 미국여행을 계획하기 때문에 미리미리 신청하시는 것이 최선이구요.  미리미리 준비하시되 학생비자에는이 있다는 것을요.

Are you the type of person who plans way ahead when you have a chore to do? Or are you the type who can’t get themselves moving unless you are facing an impeding deadline? I am the type who is always doing things at the last possible second. In fact, I am even writing this blog post as it is due;)

From my experience, most visa applicants give themselves plenty of time to receive their visas. But occasionally, there are those applicants on a very tight vacation schedule; as soon as the interview is over, they ask if they can get their visa by the following day.  Yet, there are also students who won’t be starting their new semester until September, but already arrange for their interviews before it’s even turned May.

Today’s post is a trivial, yet very valuable, piece of advice for those types who plan way ahead. This advice is about the 120-day rule that applies to student visa applicants.

The rule is this: You can only apply for your visa within 120 days of the start date on the program, as shown on the front of the I-20.

For example, if the start date for my program is September 1, my interview can be 120 days before that…that’s about four months, so…I could apply after May 4th. If your interview does happen to fall more than 120 days out, that would unfortunately mean going through the hassle of:

1) Have your interview, and if you are approved for your visa,

2) Send your passport back to the Embassy after the 120-day mark has passed to receive your visa.

But, keep this in mind: It is still best to apply early for your student visa ahead of the summer and winter vacations, as there are a lot of people applying for U.S. visas (so it is harder to get an appointment).  Apply early, but don’t forget the 120-day rule!
